This is artwork that I created for the family of Christina-Taylor Green. For those who haven't heard her story, I will explain:
2 years ago today, Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was holding a public meeting in a parking lot in Tucson Arizona. While a number of people were gathered to meet her, a man walked up and started shooting, killing 6 and injuring the Congresswoman, who was shot in the head but survived. 9 year old Christina-Taylor was one of the victims. She was there that day to meet Giffords because she had an interest in politics and hoped to be involved on a national level someday. Oddly enough, she was born on September 11th 2001. I felt compelled to create this artwork because, according to reports, Christina-Taylor was in line waiting to meet the Congresswoman but the two never got the chance to meet. So I figured, if anyone could put them together now, it could be me.
Her surviving family has a print of this in their home and were happy to receive it. Art is one of the best ways to memorialize someone and occasionally, an idea like this pops in my head and i feel the need to finish it. It can be the most rewarding type of art knowing that it can bring comfort to others.
